“Cooktown is much quieter and a nice place to relax. The town and surrounding area are steeped in history and there are some excellent walks. I stayed at Pam's Place, a YHA associate hostel run by the amiable Scottie and inhabited by his colourful and friendly birds who just love human company and being scratched around the head and neck! The dorms were clean and very comfortable; the modern kitchen was very well equipped - even cooking oil is supplied. Overall a well run and very nice place to stay.”
